Kingdom Community Services, aka KCS, is located in the rural Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, which is the most isolated and sparcely populated corner of the state. As a result, the area is consistently the most economically depressed in the state. In an effort to help meet the basic human needs of our community, we provide on-going, year-round assistance in the form of meals, groceries, and blankets & coats to support local residents who are struggling to make ends meet.
The majority (90%) of our clients are on state and federal public assistance programs (SSDI, SSI, unemployment benefits, food stamps). Our client population is comprised of the elderly, those experiencing homelessness, the “working poor,” veterans, the disabled, and those experiencing a single-event emergency (ex. house fire) or temporary hardship.
The volunteer Food Shelf manager supervises our team of trained volunteers who serve our clients, receive donations, stock groceries and other items, prepare documentation, and maintain the facility. Volunteers prepare and serve meals, pack holiday food boxes, and run the CoOp Christmas program by gathering and distributing Christmas gifts. If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please contact us at info@kingdomcommunityservices-stj.org.
